If you can’t stand the heat…

Become an artist.  In 2009, I developed a life-threatening allergy to heat and couldn’t leave my home for months.  I made the most of it by pursuing a long ignored dream—to become an artist.

I picked up a paintbrush, experimented and took online art classes.  Creating became my therapy and escape as I struggled with being homebound.

Follow your True North.

Or Northwest.  Since that fateful summer, my family and I have moved to a more temperate climate and now reside in a farmhouse on a wet and wild mountain near Seattle–another dream come true.   We have fallen madly in love with this place of mountains, water and limitless shades of green.

Because of my heat allergy, I was forced to follow my authentic path.  I think the universe knew I needed a little nudging.

Give thanks for unknown blessings already on the way.

My mantra.  One that grounds me and best captures my life philosophy right now.  I just adore the idea of believing that good things are coming your way.  When you are expecting them to happen, you are more likely to notice them.  Soon, you see blessings everywhere you look.  It’s magical, I tell you!

And, gratitude?  To me, it’s a pause.  A recognition of all the beauty that surrounds you.

Believe the universe is on your side.

It seems as though my dreaded heat allergy made all my dreams come true. Today, I am a full-time artist who enjoys selling originals, as well as licensing my art for stationery and home decor with companies such as Hallmark, teNeues Publishing, Dianoche Designs, Woodmansterne and more. I also teach workshops all over the country, have written a book to share tips and techniques for art and living an artistic life, have produced three art technique DVDs with FW Media, paint wedding bouquets and yoga mats, and offer a yoga inspired art online e-course.
